New citizens from 12 countries sworn in at Richland courthouse event

RICHLAND, Wash. – A special ceremony took place at the United States Courthouse and Federal Building in Richland for 25 immigrants, who were sworn in as new U.S. citizens.

The April 15 event, organized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s Office, was presided by United States District Court Judge Edward F. Shea.

The new citizens hail from 12 different countries, including China, Ecuador, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nicaragua, Romania, Russia, and South Korea, a release said.

Representatives from the Auditors Offices of Benton and Franklin Counties, along with the Washington League of Women Voters, were present to assist the new citizens with voter registration.

Following the ceremony, the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a reception, where the new citizens received an American Flag pin from the Sons of the American Revolution.
