National Washington Day is May 10

OLYMPIA, Wash.-May 10 is National Washington Day, a time to celebrate everything great about the Evergreen State.

Washington was the 42nd state to join the union and covers 71,362 square miles, making it the 18th largest in the country.

Known for its agriculture and food manufacturing, Washington apples are world-famous. However, the state also produces some of the worlds best hops, lentils, potatoes, asparagus and cherries, according to the State Chamber of Commerce.

Aviation, clean technology and the information technology sectors are also some of the driving forces of Washington’s economy.

Tourism is the fourth largest industry in Washington, according to Commerce, with varied scenery and recreational opportunities from the Pacific Ocean and rain forests on the west side to mountain ranges in the center and desert sands in Eastern Washington.
