Mother and infant transported to hospital after wrong-way crash on I-82

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – An 82-year-old driving the wrong way on I-82 allegedly caused a crash that sent a mother and her baby to the hospital on Thursday, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Sarah Clasen.

Benton County Fire District 1 responded to the crash at 9:50 p.m. at milepost 113 near Locust Grove Road.

The driver, an 82-year-old White Bird, Idaho man reportedly drove westbound in the eastbound lanes before hitting an oncoming car.

According to Trooper Clasen, Bird was first reported to be driving in the wrong direction on US 395 at Hildebrand Boulevard in Kennewick.

The mother and baby involved in the crash were brought to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, per Clasen.

Charges are pending against the driver. Drugs or alcohol are not a factor in the crash.
