MISSOULA, Mont. – Missoula will remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, with a special service at Rose Park Memorial Garden.

The service will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will include retired veterans groups, local Boy and Girl Scout troops, as well as firefighters.

Jim Meixner from the Missoula Air Force Auxiliary shared insights about the importance of the event.

“You’re not really supporting the people. You’re supporting the families and friends of the people that died in 9/11,” Meixner said. “Because they’re the ones that have to live with the memory. But it’s nice to know that your family members did something heroic and helped out other people.”

The Missoula Air Force Auxiliary plays a significant role in local activities such as search and rescue, as well as honoring the families of deceased veterans. Today, their Color Guard will line up and play taps to honor the memories of those who passed 23 years ago.

The “Never Forget” service will run until around 8:00 p.m. and feature the laying down of 7,000 flags, each one representing a life lost in the September 11 attacks.
