Mayor of Troy resigns amid city council disputes

TROY, Mont. – The city council meeting in Troy took an unexpected turn on October 21, 2024, when Mayor Chuck Ekstedt announced his resignation.

During the meeting, Ekstedt addressed the crowd, saying, “For my report, I guess…. I’m done. After this meeting I’m done.”

He cited ongoing issues and disputes with other city council members as the reason for his decision to step down.

Following the announcement, the city posted on Facebook that they are accepting applications for an interim mayor. According to their city code, they have 30 days from the time of Ekstedt’s resignation to appoint someone to fill the position.

The community is now awaiting the appointment of a new mayor.
