YAKIMA, Wash.-A May Day March in honor of International Workers Day is set for May 1 in Yakima from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Hosted by the May 1st Coalition, the annual peaceful march honors the work of immigrants in the Yakima Valley and works to promote the rights of immigrants.
There will be a teach-in about the walkouts in California and time to make posters at 4:00 p.m. at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center at 1211 S. 7th Street, with performances beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The march will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a program in the gym at 6 p.m.
The event will feature musical performances, speakers, resources for families and tamales.
According to the May 1st Coalition, the community is uniting on International Workers Day in support of better labor protections for all workers and for unemployment insurance for workers regardless of immigration status.
