TRI-CITIES, Wash. – Visit Tri-Cities announced in a press release on Wednesday that the Department of Energy is opening more reservations for Manhattan Project B-Reactor Tours at the Hanford Site through Oct. 2024.
The extension will provide visitors more time to explore the scientific landmark, according to the release.
“We have noticed a swell in the interest in destinations where history and science can be explored, and we have one of the most intriguing stories in that genre to tell,” said Visit Tri-Cities President and CEO Kevin Lewis. “Dollar for dollar, our history and science messaging is currently providing the best return on advertising spend of all our marketing efforts.”
Data suggests that interest in history and science tourism is growing, with visitors from 38 countries and 48 states visiting the B-Reactor from March 29 to June 29. Over $1.7 million has gone to local hotels as a result from March 20 to June 30.
