BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-A manual recount in the race for Benton County Public Utility District Commissioner District 3 between Mike Massey and Barry Bush will start on Monday, Dec. 2.
The recount is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and should take about four days to complete, according to Benton County.
A manual recount is required in Washington State when the difference between the two candidates is less than 150 votes and also less than 1/4 of one percent of the total votes cast for both candidates, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s Office.
Massey and Bush are separated by just six votes. According to the latest numbers from the Secretary of State’s Office, Massey is leading Bush by a margin of 23,797 to 23,791.
Benton County Elections Division staff will conduct the recount from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Dec. 2-5.
The results of the recount will be certified on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Benton County Elections Center.
