RICHLAND, Wash.-A man who fled the country after being arrested on suspicion of child rape in Richland in 2014, has been arrested in Mexico.
Alexander Callahan, 34, was arrested in Mexico on Dec. 11 and will now be extradited back to Benton County, according to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office.
Callahan was released after posting $50,000 bail after his arrest in March of 2014. According to court documents he was scheduled to be back in court in Oct. of 2014 to change his original plea to guilty, however, he fled to Mexico instead.
A nationwide extradition warrant was issued for Callahan’s arrest when he failed to appear in court and he had been at-large for the past nine years until being arrested in Mexico.
According to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office, the extradition process for Callahan is underway, but it is unknown when he will be returned to Benton County.
