WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A man is dead following a pursuit and collision that crossed state lines near Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater Saturday night.
According to Richard Schram from the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began near Milton-Freewater and the driver continued north into Washington and Walla Walla.
Schram said College Place police found reason to attempt an arrest on the driver and began a short pursuit but later lost the driver.
Later in the night, police found the driver crashed into a power pole on Stateline Road on the border of Washington and Oregon.
The man, Yahir Rafael Melgoza, 21, was found injured. Stateline Road was temporarily closed due to the crash.
Melgoza was brought to the hospital and later died.
