FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. – Following a six-day jury trial, a man in Franklin County was found guilty on three felony child sex offenses, according to a press release from the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
After around two hours of deliberations from the jury, Damaso Montes was found guilty of first-degree rape of a child and two counts of first-degree child molestation. He was found not guilty on another count of first-degree child rape.
The jury found that Montes abused a position of trust and that his offenses were part of a pattern of sexual abuse of the same underaged victim over multiple years.
The victim reported the abuse in Jan. 2023, however several incidents happened between Jan. 1, 2017 and Feb. 7, 2019.
The press release says Montes faces a minimum of between 17 and 23 years in prison to a maximum of life in prison. After spending his minimum term, the Indeterminate Sentencing Review Board will decide when and if he is appropriate to release.
Montes’ sentencing is set for June 17, 2024.
