FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. – A man was arrested in rural Franklin County on Fri., May 3 for holding his brother and elderly father hostage and starting a fire in a home, according to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
FCSO was called to the 3000 block of Taylor Flats Road for a report of a domestic violence situation that may involve a gun.
Deputies found that a man was being held hostage inside the home by his brother. As deputies called for help, the man escaped and gave the officials more information, saying that his elderly father was still inside.
Deputies tried to call the brother to negotiate, however he refused. Additional law enforcement later arrived from the Kennewick, Richland and Pasco Police Departments.
As officers started to secure the home, the brother reportedly started a fire inside. Shortly after, he surrendered and was arrested at the front door.
The elderly father was rescued from the home by officials. A NonStop Local reporter at the home said Franklin County Fire District 3 arrived to fight the fire.
FCSO says charges for the arrested man have not been decided. An investigation is ongoing.
