MABTON, Wash. – A woman was injured and stuck after falling down a 40-foot hole in Mabton Wednesday evening, according to Yakima County Fire District 5.
YCFD5 says that the woman and a man were moving wood outside when the ground gave way, trapping the woman in the hole. The property owner says they were unaware that the hole was on their property.
An initial call reported that the woman had fallen 20 feet down the hole, however later estimates said the hole was 40 feet deep.
The call was initially a medical call, however quickly changed to a very technical rescue, according to YCFD5. A specialized technical rescue team along with aerial support and other stations were brought in for support.
The woman was rescued from the hole about two and a half hours after the first report. She was brought to the Kadlec Medical Center in Richland with serious injuries.
YCFD5 was supported in the rescue by the Yakima Training Center, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Yakima Fire Department, Sunnyside Fire Department, Life Flight, Prosser Memorial Hospital Ambulance and the Mabton Police Department.
