BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-Benton County Fire District #1 Chief Lonnie Click has transitioned into a new leadership role ahead of his retirement at the end of the year.

Deputy Chief Scott LoParco, a Finley resident who has been with the district since 1990, was promoted to Fire Chief on May 1 as Click took over a Chief Executive Officer position with the district, according to BCFD1.

Click has served with BCFD1 for over 38 years, starting as a volunteer with the district in 1986 and serving as a Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief since 2014.

“When I think about the past 10 years serving as Fire Chief, I think I’m most proud of the work we did to improve the services that we provide to the community,” said Click.

That work included the building of a new fire station and upgrades to the district’s resources.

Click will retire on Dec. 31.
