Local officials seek community input on safety improvements

KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick Police Department is partnering with the Benton-Franklin Health District and Safe Yakima Valley to learn how the community feels about local health and safety services.

The project, known as the Sequential Intercept Model, aims to enhance local health and crime coverage. The Benton-Franklin Health District has developed a survey to collect community feedback on pressing safety issues.

The initiative covers Yakima, Benton and Franklin counties.

Commander Isaac Merkl of the Kennewick Police Department emphasized the importance of community feedback for the project’s success.

“Figure out where our gaps in service are. And part of that is this survey to the community so that we can see what they’re experiencing and feeling in the local areas,” Merkel said.

The survey is anonymous and consists of 22 multiple-choice questions. The data collected will be shared with law enforcement and government agencies across the three counties to help shape policy for state and federal legislators.
