Leave your guns at home when ringing in the New Year

SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-Fireworks and other noise makers are a New Year’s Eve tradition, however, guns should never be shot into the air to celebrate.

In a social media post, the City of Sunnyside is reminding everyone to leave guns out of their celebrations.

Stray bullets shot into the air can cause damage, serious injuries and even death and shooting guns into the air is against the law in Washington.

According to RCW 9.41.230, it is illegal to aim or shoot guns in a way that endangers others.

Both the sale and discharge of fireworks is also prohibited on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day under Sunnyside Municipal Code.

Anyone who observes any dangerous behaviors is also encouraged to call local law enforcement immediately.
