KITTITAS CO., Wash. — Kittitas County Search and Rescue volunteers set up transceiver boards on Saturday, Dec. 16, to prepare for the backcountry snow adventuring season.
Volunteers set the beacons at Crystal Springs, French Cabin, Cooper and 29 Pines Sno-Parks. Transceivers are set up to pick up radio signals from avalanche beacons worn by skiers who may be buried under the snow.
KCSR also took the opportunity to remind all backcountry recreationists to adventure safely by:
Checking the weather and snow conditionsCarrying all avalanche rescue equipment (Beacon, shovel and probe)Communicating with a friend or family the intended route and estimated return timeMaking sure you have the ten essentials including extra food and water and a first aid kit
