KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash.-A Kirkland woman and her dog were rescued after getting lost on a hike near Easton on May 12.
The woman called 911 around 8 p.m. and reported that she could not find her way down from a hike in the French Cabin Mountain area north of Easton.
According to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, the woman and her 13-year-old Shiba Inu dog lost the trail due to two to three feet of packed snow on the ground.
Kittitas County Sheriff’s Deputies and Kittitas County Search and Rescue responded to the area and made it up the mountain around 10 p.m.
Communications with the rescue teams were only possible with multiple radio relay teams and the search party located the woman around 3:20 a.m., according to the KCSO.
The hiker was helped down the mountain and her dog was carried and they reached the trailhead around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13.
The woman was uninjured and was able to drive herself home.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office is warning hikers that slow melts slowly during the spring and early summer in the mountains.
