TACOMA, Wash.-The Kinkajou found at a rest stop in Yakima on June 23 has found a temporary home at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.
The carnivorous mammal, usually found in tropical rainforests from Brazil to Mexico, was rescued by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police after being spotted at the Yakima area rest stop.
According to a social media post from the Point Defiance Zoo, the Kinkajou was immediately quarantined and will undergo a wellness exam with the zoo’s veterinary team.
Kinkajous are not endangered, however, they are hunted for fur, meat and the illegal pet trade, according to the Point Defiance Zoo.
