KENNWICK, Wash.- Kennewick Police have recognized an outstanding individual through their newly launched ‘Positive Policing’ initiative, which rewards random selfless acts of kindness.
The Kennewick Police Department says Andrew Acton intervened when he heard loud noises coming from his neighbor’s home. Acton found a male assaulting his neighbors.
KPD officials report that Acton remained on scene to support the responding on-duty officer, when the male suspect began to resist arrest, until backup units arrived.
Officer Witham presented Acton with a $100 gift card as part of the Positive Policing program. According to police, the initiative is a partnership with Hapo Community Credit Union to acknowledge good intentions backed by selfless action to keep the community safe.
“While we do not encourage citizens to engage with suspects and would rather you be a good witness, we believe looking after your neighbor and caring for each other is a huge part of this program,” said KPD.
