KENNEWICK, Wash. – A Kennewick woman who was found guilty of a September 2023 dog attack in Benton County Superior Court was sentenced to jail on Wed., July 31.

Court documents say Sara Madrigal, 34, is set to spend 10 months in jail starting Aug. 27 on one count of a dangerous dog attack causing severe injury or death.

On Sept. 20, 2023, two pit bulls owned by Madrigal attacked a smaller dog near West Victoria Avenue and North Kellogg Street. Witnesses said the smaller dog’s owner, Billene “Billi” Cameron, attempted to intervene but was also attacked by the pit bulls, even following her into her home.

Cameron was brought to a nearby hospital where she later died. An autopsy confirmed that her death was caused by medical complications suffered during treatment.

Court documents say Cameron had recently had medical issues and was on blood thinners.

Videos later confirmed witness accounts of the attack and the pit bulls were taken by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court documents, the pit bulls belonged to Madrigal’s ex-boyfriend but she kept them when they broke up, despite being deemed “dangerous” after a previous attack in 2021.

Benton County Deputy Prosecutor Tyler Grandgeorge said in an email in 2023 that Madrigal entered a not guilty plea, though she later submitted a guilty plea on June 12, 2024.
