KENNEWICK, Wash. – The shooting in a Kennewick neighborhood on Monday resulted in the death of Travis Kitchen, 48, according to the Kennewick Police Department. One neighbor said she wasn’t home, but her husband and son were.
The neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, said her husband didn’t know the nature of the attack, but as soon as he saw law enforcement, he took them to Kitchen. She said her husband also told her to stay away from the house for a few hours for her safety.
The neighbor said neither she nor her husband saw what happened, but people were working in the area who did.
According to the neighbor, law enforcement had K9s in the area searching for the shooter.
She said she believed the two knew each other, and according to KPD, they did.
The shooting left the neighbors in the area shaken.
“My husband is a combat vet,” said the anonymous neighbor. “He just jumped into action and went into that mindset and has had a hard time coming down from the adrenaline.”
According to KPD’s Commander Aaron Clem, the shooter is dead after a lengthy standoff earlier today.
