RICHLAND, Wash.-A Kennewick man will spend the next seven years in prison for trafficking fentanyl.

Dwight Norwood, Jr., 27, was sentenced on Nov. 19 and must also serve five years of supervised release.

“Illicit fentanyl has a devastating impact on our community, including a close nexus with violent crime and poisoning deaths,” said Vanessa Waldref, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. “Mr. Norwood was distributing a significant amount of these poison pills in the Tri-Cities region.”

According to the Department of Justice, the Safe Streets Task Force determined that Norwood was distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl pills out of a fifth wheeler in Benton City, Washington in 2021.

Norwood was arrested in Feb. 2022 after his girlfriend called the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and claimed that he had given her a black eye, was chasing her in a car and was trying to shoot her.

BCSO Deputies tried to stop Norwood at a gas station in Benton City, however, he ran from the scene.

A K9 tracked Norwood and he was arrested. During a search of his car a loaded .45 and over 800 fentanyl pills were recovered.

According to the DOJ, Norwood’s home was also searched and a drug scale with residue, more fentanyl, drug ledgers and cell phones were recovered.
