Kennewick Irrigation customers asked to conserve with voluntary watering schedule

KENNEWICK, Wash.-The Kennewick Irrigation District is urging its customers to use a voluntary watering schedule due to the statewide drought.

These voluntary water conservation efforts could help shorten or even remove a mandatory watering schedule later in the irrigation season, according to the KID.

If residents use a voluntary watering schedule it would collectively reduce overall water usage throughout the district and ensure a water supply throughout the season, according to a KID press release on the proposal.

The voluntary watering schedule would spread out watering and help maintain pressure throughout the system and ensure water for all customers.

The KID’s voluntary watering schedule is based on the last digit of your property address and residents would be able to water for 20 minutes per zone of their property three times a week.

The KID provided the following example for customers:

If your address were 2015 S. Ely Street, then you could water 20 minutes per zone on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Sunday: Morning: 1,5 Evening: 0,4Monday: Morning: 3,7,8 Evening: 6.9Tuesday: Morning: 1,5 Evening: 0,2Wednesday: Morning: 3,7 Evening: 4,6,9Thursday: Morning: 5,8 Evening: 0,2Friday: Morning: 1,3 Evening: 4,6Saturday: Morning: 7,8 Evening: 2,9
