KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Kennewick Fire Department fought a brush fire Friday afternoon and prevented it from damaging homes, according to a press release.

At 4:37 p.m., crews were called to the 2900 block of South Everett Street with reports that the fire was growing rapidly in a nearby canyon.

Crews found the fire quickly spreading to nearby homes and immediately doused the flames closest to the homes then moved away from them. An off-road firefighting vehicle was used to get deeper into the canyon.

Crews got the fire under control in 27 minutes and no one was injured. The cause is under investigation, however is considered suspicious.

A technician from Benton PUD also responded to ensure there was no powerline damage from the fire.
