KENNEWICK, Wash. – A house’s basement caught fire in Kennewick on Thursday and was considered under control just 15 minutes after being called in, according to a press release from the Kennewick Fire Department.

Crews were called to the 600 block of West 18th Avenue at 9:04 p.m. for a home that was filling up with smoke with a dog and a child possibly still inside.

The first KFD crew member arrived four minutes after the call came in and found smoke coming from the home’s basement. One crew found the source of the fire and worked on controlling it while another searched for the dog and child, which were not found inside.

11 minutes after the first crew member arrived, and 15 minutes after the fire was initially called in, the fire was considered under control. Fire crews stayed at the home afterwards to take out hot spots and search for hidden fires.

KFD says no injuries were reported and that the fire’s cause is under investigation.
