OLYMPIA, Wash.-Gov. Jay Inslee appointed a new Chair to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board on Dec. 18.

Jim Vollendroff will replace David Postman as Chair. Postman vacated the chair position to become Chief of Staff for new Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown, according to an LCB press release announcing his appointment.

“I am grateful for the opportunity,” Vollendroff said. “Together with Board Member Ollie Garrett, I look forward to continuing the board’s work in my new role as chair.”

Vollendroff has 35 years of experience in the behavioral health field, including with the University of Washington and King County, according to the LCB’s press release. He was appointed to the LCB in 2022.

“Jim has an extensive record of leadership in the public health field,” said LCB agency director William Lukela.

The three members of the LCB are appointed by the Governor to six-year terms. The duties of the LCB include, holding regular public meetings and work sessions with stakeholders, making policy and budget decisions, and ruling on contested license applications and enforcement actions on licensees.

“I am eager to work with my fellow board members and LCB staff addressing emerging trends within the dynamic industries we license and regulate,” said Vollendroff.
