KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – Miss Rodeo Washington announced its 2024 Miss Teen Rodeo Washington to be 17-year-old Jessa Thomas, the first Black teen to earn the title.
Thomas, a first-generation cowgirl from Kittitas County, started her journey at two years old where she first rode a pony at a pumpkin patch. She would then spend hours working at a barn starting at the age of five after her family purchased their first horses.
Thomas lives on Windswept Farms with her family where she raises miniature Herefords and looks after livestock on the farm.
Thomas’ family also runs the Winney Wellness organization which brings ponies to schools, retirement homes and more to allow the community to experience equines.
She is an active supporter of Rodeo, Grange, FFA and 4H, according to Miss Rodeo Washington. She hopes to continue her education to become a veterinarian.
Thomas, as the first Black state title holder, is passionate about providing greater representation for the different demographics in Washington.
Thomas’ coronation was on March 30 in Cle Elum.
