A phone frozen in an ice rink has been returned to its owner eight weeks later – and miraculously still worked.
The pink iPhone accidentally got stuck under 60k litres of water at Willen Lake, Milton Keynes in November.
It belonged to the daughter of the workman who dropped and entombed it.
And this week the ice melted and the phone was dried in rice on Monday (January 6) – and it powered on.
The workman – who wishes to remain anonymous – said: “My daughter was over the moon when I handed her phone back in full working order.
“I’d promised to replace it if it didn’t survive, but I honestly didn’t expect this outcome.
“It’s a Christmas miracle – or maybe just incredible engineering.”
The father had completely forgotten he’d popped his phone down on the base while he was working.
And overnight the iPhone was submerged and frozen solid under two inches of ice.
However, retrieving it was out of the question as chipping it out of the ice would ruin the smooth surface of the rink.
The man had only borrowed it to use at work because he’d lost his own phone the previous day – and the family had to wait eight weeks until the ice melted.
Rob Cook, director at Ice Leisure, said: “This just adds another layer to the memories made at Willen On Ice this season.
“We’ve seen laughter, celebrations, and now an ice-entombed phone make a full comeback.
“We’re thrilled for the family – and perhaps a little surprised ourselves.”
