International Overdose Awareness Day event set for Yakima on Aug. 30

YAKIMA, Wash.-Friday, Aug. 30 is International Overdose Awareness Day and Triumph Treatment Services is hosting an event at Sarg Hubbard Park to raise awareness about the epidemic of drug overdose deaths.

The free event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will offer support and education from Triumph counselors, staff, clients, families, as well as more than 30 community resource organizations, according to a Triumph press release.

International Overdose Awareness Day is an annual campaign to end overdose deaths and to acknowledge the grief of those left behind, according to its website.

Those who have lost loved ones to overdose are encouraged to bring pictures or stories to share on the Memory Wall, or participate in the Remembrance Rock painting activity.

International Overdose Awareness Day schedule:

10-11 a.m. Coffee and donuts11-1 p.m. Program of speakers 1-2 p.m. Ice Cream social

The event is free, however, attendees are encouraged to RSVP. Sarg Hubbard Park is located at 111 S. 18th Street in Yakima.
