In Their Shoes 2023 to help fund Rod’s House shelter

YAKIMA, Wash.- After breaking ground on the facility in August, Rod’s House is still working to fund the construction of the first youth and young adult homeless shelter in Yakima County.

The 14th annual In Their Shoes gala is planning to help the cause.

The night will feature a catered dinner, live and silent auctions and presentations from youth who have gone through the Rod’s House system.

The upcoming shelter is set to be opened sometime in 2024, combining the needs of a shelter for both young people and minors.

“The new shelter will actually be two shelters combined by a wall,” says Maggie Treichler of Rod’s House. “One half will be for young people ages 18-24, experiencing homelessness to live for 30-90 days while they search for self-sustainability, find a place to move into.”

Treichler says the organization sees the need for the shelter throughout the Yakima Valley, especially within young people.

“The need is there,” says the Annual Giving Associate. “We see it when we drive down Naches Ave. There’s a lot of young people sleeping outside and a lot of young people that don’t have the things that they need. This new shelter will offer those young people a safe place to exist.”

The 2023 event still has space for individual and table tickets. Those who attend this year event will also have exclusive access to an afterparty at Single Hill Brewing, with music, food trucks and a social hour available.

“I think this year’s event is going to be a lot of fun and it’s going to be a lot different than past In Their Shoes events that you may have attended,’ said Treichler.
