Identity of woman killed in Jan. 7 Sunnyside shooting revealed

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – Officials revealed the identity of the woman that was killed in the Jan. 7 shooting in Sunnyside on Thursday.

Yakima County Chief Deputy Coroner Marshall Slight says 18-year-old Isabel Rodriguez died in the Sunnyside Hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.

SPD reports that on Tuesday, Rodriguez had been found in a car with a gunshot wound in the 1600 block of North Avenue.

Two 18-year-olds, one from Mabton and another from Sunnyside, are both in custody for their alleged relation to the shooting.

NonStop Local typically does not name suspects until they are formally charged.

The Mabton teen is facing a first degree murder charge and three attempted first degree murder charges while the Sunnyside teen is facing stolen and unlawful firearm possession charges.

Sunnyside Police Department takes crime in the City of Sunnyside personally, we want to ensure that you know we are working diligently to investigate this and protect and serve our community.”
