Holiday traffic breaks travel records

As Christmas Eve approaches, travelers across the region are gearing up for one of the busiest travel times of the year. Those planning to drive through the mountains in Washington, Idaho, or Montana should be ready for snowy conditions, according to the NonStop Local weather team.

For those flying, checking flight statuses before heading to the airport is crucial to avoid any last-minute surprises.

In Chicago, approximately 240,000 people passed through the airport yesterday, marking one of the busiest travel days of the year. AAA predicts that air travel will set a new record this holiday season, surpassing last year’s numbers.

Through January 2, 3.6 million people are expected to fly through the city. Today is anticipated to be just as busy, so travelers are advised to allow extra time for security and to plan for traffic if driving to their final destination.
