KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash.-A Seattle man hiking in the Yakima River Canyon was rescued after falling and breaking his leg on April 17.
The 65-year-old hiker called 911 around 11:15 a.m. after falling on Mt. Baldy east of the Big Pines Recreation Area, according to a social media post from the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.
The hiker’s phone showed that he was about two miles from the highway and Kittitas County Search and Rescue responded to the area with a ground team.
Rescuers reached the hiker and determined that he may have suffered a broken femur. After splinting his leg, the man was transported by litter to an emergency vehicle and taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital.
