TOPPENISH, Wash.-November is Native American Heritage Month and Heritage University has several events and celebrations planned throughout the month.
Native American Heritage Month events at Heritage University:
- November 1: Native Flute Music by Jeremy Garcia (Yakama) at 12 p.m. t in the Eagle’s Café at Heritage.
- November 8: 8 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony at the main campus entrance. Heritage University will raise the flags of the Yakama Nation, the state of Washington and the United States during a ceremony featuring the Yakama Warriors.
- November 8: Annual Honoring our Elders Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in Smith Family Hall.
- November 8: 6:30 p.m. Smith Family Hall. Reclaiming the Stage-Indigenous Style: an Evening with Tatanka Means.
- November 14: 12 p.m. The Painted Teepee Story told by The Artist, Laurie White Horse.
- November 15: All day. Rock Your Mocs. People are invited to wear moccasins as a way to celebrate Indigenous traditions and culture around the world.
- November 16: 12 p.m. Henry Kent Classroom. Movie Talk – AMÁ. Screening of documentary on the untold story of the involuntary sterilization of Native American women by Indian Health Services well into the 1970s.
- November 17: Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Patricia Wade Temple Room.
- November 20: Fireside Chat with Kip Ramsey from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Barnhill Fireside Room.
- November 29: WAR CRY live podcast: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Patricia Wade Temple Room.
- November 30: All day. Dr. Virginia Beavert (Tuxámshish) Day.
