TOPPENISH, Wash.-Heritage University has received $250,000 to support DACA and Dreamer students.
The monetary gift from the Bezos Family Foundation will support Heritage’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Funds, according to a press release from Heritage.
“This gift underscores the understanding that the foundation directors have of challenges undocumented students face if they wish to pursue a college education,” said Andrew Sund, Ph.D., the President of Heritage University.
DACA and Dreamer students are ineligible for financial aid and the gift will help support the needs of undocumented students.
The Bezos Family Foundation’s Board of Directors chooses nonprofits that align with the foundation’s mission annually. The foundation awarded Heritage due to its work to provide equitable opportunities to children and youth in its communities, according to the press release on the funding.
“This gift helps level the playing field for students to pursue a college degree regardless of their immigration status,” said Dr. Sund.
