OLYMPIA, Wash.-The retention of hatchery steelhead in the Columbia River has been expanded through the end of the year.
State fisheries managers will now allow for the retention of hatchery steelhead upriver to the Blue Bridge starting Nov. 1 and lasting until Dec. 31.
The updated retention rules relating to salmon and steelhead were implemented after the Columbia River Technical Advisory Committee updated the B-Index summer steelhead return at Bonneville Dam to 49,900 compared to the preseason forecast of 32,200, according to the WDFW.
The better than estimated return now allows for the retention of hatchery steelhead.

A daily limit of six fish may be caught. Two adults (minimum size 12 inches), but no more than one Chinook may be retained.Only Chinook, Coho and hatchery steelhead may be retained.
