RICHLAND, Wash.-No injuries were reported in an early morning fire at Hanford High School on Dec. 6.
Richland firefighters and police responded around 5:21 a.m. to the small fire that started in a room between two science classrooms on the first floor of the school, according to an RPD social media post.
The fire started in a plastic garbage can and triggered the building’s sprinkler systems, which helped contain the fire.
The sprinklers did cause flooding in the school and the Richland School District was working with staff and families to work out a schedule for the school day.
Shawna Dinh, the Public Information Officer for the RSD provided NonStop Local with the following statement on the fire.
“The majority of the school building is still accessible, and classes are continuing as normal. Students who have classes in the impacted hallway are meeting with their teachers in the gym today. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but early indications do show it started in a garbage can in a storage room.”
According to the RPD, there is no indication that anyone was in the building at the time of the fire and no criminal activity is suspected at this time.
