Great Falls growth policy meetings to engage community on future plans

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – This week, the City of Great Falls is teaming up with Orion Planning & Design to update residents on new growth policies in the area.

There will be multiple meetings held to help the public understand these ongoing efforts and encourage greater community involvement. The meetings are scheduled for August 21 and August 22 at Great Falls College MSU.

The consulting team will get to know the city better during these sessions to involve the community more actively in planning for the future of Great Falls.

The last growth policy update was adopted in 2013 after more than 19 months of planning. This time, the city has contracted Orion Planning & Design for $371,184. The new growth policy will guide Great Falls through to 2045.

The growth policy is an important public document that helps shape the future of Great Falls. It covers everything from social and environmental issues to physical and economic development, guiding how we grow and evolve.

Topics for discussion during the two-day meetings include the environment, housing, public safety, neighborhoods, and schools. The sessions will take place in both the morning and early afternoon.

Right now, the city is in the drafting, editing, and revising phase of the policy. They plan to adopt the new growth policy in November 2025.

The growth policy update will be a lengthy process involving a lot of input from the community and stakeholders over the next year.

Community members are encouraged to participate to help shape the future of Great Falls.
