Gas leak in RV engine compartment causes fire in Kennewick, two homes damaged

KENNEWICK, Wash. – An RV fire in Kennewick damaged two homes after being started by a gas leak in the engine compartment.

On July 12 around 11:12 p.m., the Kennewick Fire Department was dispatched to reports of an RV on fire in the backyard of a home on the 8300 block of West Yellowstone Ave.

According to a press release from the KFD, when crews arrived on scene a large fire was visibly burning from the RV and threatening two homes.

Fire crews quickly accessed a fire hydrant and had the fire under control in 13 minutes. The two homes near the fire only sustained exterior damage.

Crews stayed on scene for multiple hours putting out hotspots. There were no injuries related to the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a gas leak in the RV’s engine compartment. According to KFD, the RV owner was working on repairs before the fire started.

A shed on the property was also damaged due to the fire.
