Fuel breaks re-established around Benton County ahead of expected busy fire season

BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-Benton County Fire Protection District #2 recently re-established fire breaks throughout the district ahead of what is expected to be a busy fire season.

Fire crews worked for three days to re-establish the fire breaks with dozer lines at various locations, including the Rattlesnake Hills, according to a social media post from BCFD2.

If a natural cover fire does break out the fuel breaks provide barriers and allow fire crews the time to tie other lines to it to fight the fire.

An estimated 430 man hours goes into re-establishing fire breaks each year throughout the district, according to BCFD2.
