PASCO, Wash. –
The City of Pasco is offering a free recycling option for people looking to get rid of their old natural Christmas trees.
City of Pasco Recreation Services Manager, Brent Kubalek, says that this site will be open until Jan. 21st or 22nd in 2024. Once that deadline is here, Kubalek says the trees will be chipped and turned into mulch that will be spread at the Big Cross Sports Complex in Pasco.
“I drop my Christmas tree off here every year. I think it is a great idea to recycle these things and it is a lot better than leaving it out on your front yard for the garbage man” says Pete Pelto, Community Member.
According to the National Christmas Tree Association, nearly 30,000,000 real Christmas trees are sold in the U.S. every year, The City of Pasco says that since the recycling site opened up on Christmas day, a couple hundred trees have already been brought down to the site.
Things to take off of your tree before recycling it:
– Ornaments
– Tinsel
– Lights
“I think this helps create community it’s a service that we are all working together to reduce cost, reduce waste and built a better Pasco and a better Tri-Cities” says Brent Kubalek, Pasco Recreation Services Manager.
The recycle site is located on Road 36 just North of Argent Rd. in Pasco, WA.
