PASCO, Wash. – Franklin PUD is set to host winter weatherization workshops on Wed., Jan. 22 for residents to learn how to prepare their home for winter.
Attendees can learn about their home’s energy efficiency hotspots, how and where to weather strip and information about heating systems.
Franklin PUD also has several tips on saving energy over the winter:
Check attic and crawlspace insulation and ensure it meets energy efficiency standards with 12 to 18 inches of insulationSchedule service calls for heating systems and change filters regularlyDon’t block baseboard heaters with furnitureInstall a smart or programmable thermostat to preset times and temperaturesTake advantage of heat from the sun by opening south-facing curtainsUse LED holiday lights to save on lighting costsWash full loads of laundry with cold waterUse a water heater blanket if the water heater is in an uninsulated area like a basementEliminate drafts around the houseCheck seals around doorsLower thermostat to lowest comfortable settingInstall window treatments and keep them closedClose fireplace dampers when not in useInstall low flow shower heads to limit hot water useSet hot water heater temperature to maximum of 120 degrees Fahenheit
