Franklin Pool closed due to unhealthy air, air quality alert issued for Yakima County

YAKIMA, Wash.-Franklin Pool is now closed due to unhealthy air quality in the region and an air quality alert has been issued for Yakima County due to wildfire smoke.

The Washington State Department of Health is advising residents in areas impacted by wildfire smoke to limit the duration and intensity of outdoor activities and to stay indoors if possible with the doors and windows closed to keep smoke out.

Exposure to wildfire smoke can cause health problems, especially for the elderly or those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, according to the DOH, including:

Eye, nose and throat irritationFatigueHeadache and coughingWheezing or shortness of breathMental health concerns and psychological stress
