SEATTLE, Wash.-A new feature that allows customers to filter out flights on Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 planes after an Alaska Airlines Max 9 lost its door midflight has become quite popular with travelers.
Following the incident of the door breaking away from the plane the FAA grounded all Max 9 planes until they could be inspected.
According to KING 5 reporting, Kayak’s website already had a feature for customers to filter out certain planes before the door incident, however, after the popularity of the filter increased, the company added the Max 9 option.
Boeing has been under increased scrutiny since the door blowout, with loose bolts being found on other Max 9 planes since and on Wednesday, Jan. 24, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) met with Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun.
Sen. Cantwell released the following statement after her meeting with Boeing:
“In today’s meeting with Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun, I made it clear that quality engineering and a commitment to safety always have to be the top priority. Hardworking engineers and machinists in the Pacific Northwest know this.”
“Recent reporting by the Seattle Times and other outlets underscores the urgency of the situation. I will be holding hearings to investigate the root causes of these safety lapses.”
