RICHLAND, Wash.-The community is invited to the inaugural “Sirens and Snow Cones” event to promote bike safety and community engagement from noon to 2 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Chief Joseph Middle School.

Richland Police and Fire and Emergency Services are teaming up for the free, family-friendly event.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for families to learn about bike safety and enjoy a sweet treat in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, while engaging with your local first responders,” said Interim RPD Chief Craig Meidl.

Sirens and Snow Cones is an opportunity to educate the community on the importance of wearing helmets while biking, according to an RPD press release and will feature free snow cones and hot dogs, as well as the chance to tour emergency vehicles.

“By promoting bike safety in a fun and interactive way, we hope to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” said Richland Fire Chief Thomas Huntington.

Chief Joseph Middle School is located at 504 Wilson Street in Richland.
