PASCO, Wash. – In the spirit of Three Kings’ Day, Hello Habanero, a digital market company along with organizations across the Tri-Cities are putting together the “Royal Rosca” event.
Organizers say they are going to present the largest Rosca de Reyes (King’s Bread) ever made in Tri-Cities.
Rosca de Reyes, is a cake made of traditional Mexican sweet bread in the shape of a wreath.
The cake is decorated with different shapes and fruit are meant to symbolize the gifts given to baby Jesus and inside the cake is a number of plastic babies, symbolizing the newborn messiah. Traditionally, if you cut into the cake and have the baby in your slice then you have to cook tamales for everyone on Feb. 2, or on Candelaria Day.
At today’s event, Hello Habanero says you can enjoy Mexican-inspired hot chocolate provided by Rollin, and savor the sweet tradition of Rosca de Reyes from Eli’s Bakery.
According to organizers, the “Royal Rosca” event isn’t just about the treats, but about making a difference in our community. They say all donations and proceeds from this event will go towards supporting Grace Kitchen, an organization dedicated to empowering women by providing them with essential job and life skills for a brighter future.
