BENTON CITY, Wash.- A fire burned 8.5 acres on Saturday evening after an individual lit fireworks in a gravel pullout sparked fires on both sides of the road.
According to the Benton County Fire District #2, the fire officials arrived at the scene a little after 5 p.m. to treat a brush fire. The fire prompted officials to close the west lane near MP 9.5. and direct traffic using cones. Benton County Fire Districts 1-4 and Kennewick, Hanford, and Richland helped contain the fire.
Officials say the fire was controlled by 6:24 p.m., and there were no injuries or property damage.
