BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – Fire crews contained a wildfire near River View High School on Tue., June 6.
According to Benton County Fire District 1, the wildfire was just west of River View High in the area of East 59th Avenue and South Dunham Road. Winds in the area spread sparks and caused additional fires.
Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies went door-to-door in the area advising nearby residents to evacuate north of 59th Avenue. The high school and elementary school were advised of the situation.
Parents should not go to the school to get their kids at this time, according to BCFD1.
According to Jenna Kochenauer with BCFD1, 10 cars and one structure were involved in the fire and two adults who tried to put the fire out with garden hoses are being treated for smoke inhalation.
Crews will stay at the fire and mop up, according to BCFD1.
