YAKIMA, Wash. – A Yakima home was heavily damaged by an afternoon fire, January 14.

A large plume of smoke from the home along Vertner Road was visible when fire crews arrived.

Firefighters had the flames extinguished within 45 minutes of their arrival, said West Valley Fire Deputy Chief Jim Johnston.

The fire originated on the patio of the home and worked its way into the attic where crews prevented the flames from spreading further, according to Deputy Chief Johnston.

No reports of any injuries. Johnston said two people inside the home at the time of the fire escaped before crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Yakima County Fire Marshal.
